Book Browse: 
An online magazine for booklovers – including reviews, previews, “behind the book” backstories, author interviews, reading guides, and much more.

NoveList Plus:
Database covering more than 120,000 adult, teen and children’s fiction and non-fiction titles. Provides subject heading access, reviews, annotations, hundreds of theme-oriented book lists for readers at all grade levels, award-winning and recommended titles, read-alikes, book reviews and much more.

Historical Vital Records from The New York City Municipal Archives
The New York City Municipal Archives is undertaking a mass digitization project to provide online access to 13.3 million historical birth, death, and marriage records. To learn more, read the Guide to the Vital Records Collection, which details the record-keeping history of vital records in New York City, the scope of the collections and additional resources for research.

General Research

Academic OneFile: This database has over 12,000 journals and reference sources, many of which are peer-reviewed and full text. It has extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and more. 

Brainfuse: This resource allows patrons of all ages to interact with live tutors in a wide range of state and common core-aligned subjects, including math, science, reading, and writing.

Britannica Academic Edition: An accurate, current, and comprehensive resource for college-level learners, researchers, and faculty. Discover encyclopedia articles, full-text journal and magazine articles, primary sources, multimedia, and other unique resources and tools that make research easier and more productive.

Britannica School Edition: Thousands of up-to-date, curated, and curriculum-relevant articles, images, videos, audio clips, primary sources, maps, research tools, recommended Web sites, and three separate databases for elementary, middle, or high school students. There is Read-aloud, a font size adjuster, and built-in translation tools support students with special needs and ELLs.

Gale in Context: Opposing Viewpoints: Provides overviews, pro/con essays, articles from reference books, newspapers, and magazines, and links to websites, podcasts and videos on over 5,000 topics. Supports NYS Common Core.

ReferenceUSA: A business and consumer research tool to use for quick lookups or creating customized lists. Includes listings for more than 14 million U.S. business, 4 million new businesses, 1.5 million Canadian businesses, more than 800,000 U.S. physicians and dentists and 210 million U.S. residences. 

Tech-Talk: This online resource arms you with the missing technology and communications skills you need to achieve excellence. Manlius Library patrons should use manliuslibrary as both the username and password when logging in to gain full access to Tech-Talk. You can also sign up for their weekly newsletter.

Language

Mango Languages:
Manlius Library patrons have access to Mango Languages, an interactive, online language learning resource. Create an account to save your progress or just type in your library card number for guest access. Mango has courses for over 70 languages, including materials for English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) learners.

The library also hosts four English classes a week for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 am. Registration is not required. All nationalities and skill levels are welcome. Please double check the calendar before attending.

Newspapers

Gale New York Times:
Full-text articles from The New York Times U.S. Edition (1/1/1985-current) and International Edition (11/2/2013). Freely available through NOVELny to all OCPL patrons and to all NYS residents.

Gale OneFile News:
Access full text articles from more than 1000 major U.S. regional, national and local newspapers as well as leading international titles. Search articles by title, headline, date, author or newspaper section. 

NewspaperArchive.com:
A searchable archive of digital images from US and international newspapers.  Coverage includes more than 750 cities and over 2000 newspaper titles. Included in the collection is a searchable archive of Syracuse newspapers from 1857 forward. This collection includes full text and images of newspaper pages.  Please note: The years and dates available are incomplete.

NewsBank:
A comprehensive news collection ideal for exploring issues and events at the local, regional, national and international level. Diverse source types include print and online-only newspapers, blogs, newswires, journals, broadcast transcripts and videos. 

NYS Historic Newspapers:
The NYS Historic Newspapers project provides free online access to a wide range of newspapers chosen to reflect New York’s unique history. To search the entire collection, use the Search Tab. Or, click on a county to search or browse geographically.

Fayetteville Digital Newspaper Archives:
Includes digital copies of the following newspapers, ranging from 1840-1941: Weekly Recorder, Fayetteville Bulletin, Eagle Bulletin, Fayetteville Recorder, Onondaga Independent, Fayetteville Luminary, Methodist Reformer, and the Manlius Eagle. Digitized by the Fayetteville Free Library.
