Until May 24, Onondaga County public libraries will collect worn, tattered or faded American flags that need to be respectfully retired.
Collected flags will be properly burned at the Memorial Day Watchfire ceremony sponsored by the Central New York Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America. The Watchfire ceremony is free and open to the public. It will be held on Sunday, May 28 at the Veterans Memorial Watchfire Park at the New York State Fairgrounds. The pyre and respectful burning of flags begins at dusk.
The Manlius American Legion is also accepting flags.
